looking for innovative responses to global and local challenges ;If you are interested in gaining a reputable degree from a top European academic institution in Belgium, you will be interested in the VLIR-UOS Training and Masters Scholarships in Belgium.

VLIR-UOS awards scholarships to students from 54 eligible countries in Africa, Asia and Latin-America, to follow an English-taught training or master programme at a Flemish university or university college in Belgium. VLIR-UOS scholarship covers allowance, accommodation, insurance, international travel and tuition fee.

To apply to the scholarship, you must meet the following requirements:

• Be national and resident of one of the 54 eligible countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America.

• Be Aged 40 years or less for a Master programme
• Meet the academic admission criteria set by the university or university college, concerning educational background, language proficiency, etc.

Applications are currently open for Master Programmes and the scholarship however, the deadline varies depending on the program. Further information can be obtained from the websites of  the specific Training or Master’s Programme you have chosen.

The scholarship covers programmes such as:

• Nutrition and Rural Development, main subject: Human Nutrition..
• Biology – Specialisation Human Ecology.
• Statistics – Specialisation Biostatistics.
• Molecular Biology.
• Water Resources Engineering.
• Etc

The benefits for the masters scholarship include:

• Allowance: € 860/month
• Accommodation allowance: € 375/month
• Family allowance: € 62 per dependent person/month
• Several one-time payments
• Insurance, international travel and tuition fee

Application process

 To apply for a training or Master programme, visit the website of the training or Master Programme of your interest. Follow the guidelines for application for the programme as mentioned on its website. While applying, mention that you wish to apply for the scholarship. The programme coordinator will forward your application to VLIR-UOS. note that VLIR-UOS will not consider applications submitted directly to them by the candidates!

United Nations University Scholarships for Developing Countries

The Japan Foundation for UNU (JFUNU) provides scholarships to outstanding applicants from developing countries* who can demonstrate a need for financial assistance and applying for MSc in Sustainability or PhD in Sustainability at the United Nations University in Tokyo, Japan.

• The developing countries listed in the latest OECD DAC list.

The scholarship provides a monthly allowance of 150,000 JPY* for living expenses for a maximum of 36 months for PhD in Sustainability applicants.

MSc in Sustainability applicants JFUNU scholarship provides a monthly allowance of 150,000 JPY* for living expenses for a maximum of 24 months.

For both programs, travel costs to and from Japan, visa handling fees, and health/accident insurance costs must be covered by the student. The tuition fees are fully waived for the scholarship recipients.

• 150,000 JPY is the average monthly living cost for an international student without dependents in Tokyo, although this amount may vary depending on the lifestyle of the student.

MSc in Sustainability

The Master of Science in Sustainability programme equips students with the knowledge and skills necessary to contribute to solving challenges of sustainability. Drawing on an innovative, interdisciplinary approach, the programme integrates methods and resources from the natural and social sciences, as well as the humanities.

PhD in Sustainability

The PhD programme in Sustainability Science aims to produce scholars who will become key researchers in the field of sustainability science. The programme takes an innovative approach to sustainability, seeking to promote a better understanding of the issues by incorporating global change perspectives, specifically those related to climate change and biodiversity.

Postdoc Fellowships

UNU offers postdoctoral fellowships to provide young scholars and policymakers, especially from the developing world, with a multidisciplinary context within which to pursue advanced research and training that are of professional interest to the successful applicant and of direct relevance to the research agenda of their selected UNU-IAS or UNU Centre for Policy Research (UNU-CPR) programme.
